I used discarded cardboard because not only is it the material that many homeless people end up sleeping on, but it is also discarded, just as the worldwide society discards the unhoused. The unhoused are people and need to be seen as people, as human, as ourselves.
Some might be addicted to drugs, but that doesn’t reduce them to only being addicts.
Some might steal to survive, but that doesn’t reduce them to only being thieves.
Some might have severe mental health problems, but that doesn’t reduce them to being outcasts.
They are somebody’s child, sister, brother, and in some cases mother, father, grandfather, grandmother.
Unfortunately, in June 2024, the Supreme Court in the US in the case of City of Grants Pass, Oregon vs. Johnson made sleeping in public parks/areas a crime which has enabled sweeps, removing people but giving them no place to go.
